Cancellation & Refund Policy
When we do and do not refund a payment — membership fees, event fees, contributions, and duplicate transactions.
This policy explains when Mangala United does and does not refund a payment. It applies to membership fees, event fees and voluntary contributions paid through mangalaunited.com or this Membership Portal.
1. General position #
Mangala United is a not-for-profit community association. Fees are committed to running the Association's activities as soon as they are received. For that reason payments are generally final and non-refundable.
The exceptions below exist because it would not be fair to keep money for something we did not provide, or that you never intended to pay.
2. Membership fees #
Once your membership has started — no refund
Once your application has been approved, your membership fee has been received (where applicable), and your membership has been activated by the Association, the fee is non-refundable. We do not refund it if you later resign, stop attending, move away, or your membership is suspended or terminated for breach of our code of conduct. The exceptions are set out below and in the sections that follow.
If we reject your application after you have paid — full refund
If we ask you to pay and then decline your application, we refund the fee in full. This should be rare, because payment is normally requested only after approval.
If you paid but never became a member — full refund
If a payment reached us but your membership was never activated — for example, a technical fault meant your approval was not completed — we refund it in full. You do not need to ask; where we detect it in our reconciliation we will contact you. If you spot it first, please tell us.
If the Association ceases to operate
If Mangala United is dissolved or ceases operations part-way through a membership year, any refund of unexpired fees will be dealt with in accordance with our constitution and applicable law.
3. Event fees #
| Situation | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Mangala United cancels the event | Full refund, or transfer to a rescheduled date if you prefer |
| We reschedule and you cannot attend | Full refund on request |
| You cancel more than 7 days before | Full refund |
| You cancel 3–7 days before | 50% refund |
| You cancel within 72 hours, or do not attend | No refund — catering, venue and materials are already committed |
| You are removed from the event for breaching the code of conduct | No refund |
| Your membership is suspended or terminated before the event, making you ineligible | No refund, even if the suspension is later overturned on appeal |
| We bar you from attending for any reason other than your own conduct | Full refund |
Transfers. You may pass your place to another eligible Mangala United member up to 72 hours before the event, subject to the organiser’s approval. Tell the organiser who is taking your place — an attendee we have no record of cannot be admitted, and we may need to account for dietary or access requirements. Transfers are between members; we do not refund the original booking and re-charge.
Individual events may set their own terms where the costs justify it. Where they do, those terms are stated at the point of booking and take precedence over this section.
4. Voluntary contributions #
Donations and voluntary contributions are non-refundable, except where made in error (see below).
5. Duplicate and erroneous payments #
We always refund:
- a payment made twice for the same membership or event;
- an amount charged that is more than the amount due;
- a payment taken where our system had already recorded the fee as paid;
- a payment debited from your account where the transaction failed and no membership or booking resulted.
6. How to request a refund #
Email connect@mangalaunited.com with:
- the name and email address on the account;
- the amount and date of the payment;
- the receipt number, or the Razorpay payment ID from your confirmation;
- the reason for the request.
We acknowledge within 2 working days and decide within 7 working days. If we decline, we will tell you why.
7. How refunds are paid #
Approved refunds are issued through Razorpay to the original payment method. We cannot refund to a different card, account or UPI ID.
Once we initiate a refund it typically reaches you in 5–7 working days, depending on your bank.
Convenience fee. The payment gateway adds a small convenience fee to your payment, shown separately at checkout before you confirm. It is the gateway’s charge for processing the transaction — Mangala United does not receive any part of it, and receives only the membership or event fee itself. Because it is not ours, we cannot return it: the convenience fee is not refundable, and a refund covers the membership or event fee only. Your receipt shows that fee, not the convenience fee.
Every refund is recorded against the original receipt in our accounts.
8. If you disagree with our decision #
Write to the Treasurer at connect@mangalaunited.com, marking your email "Refund appeal". The committee will review it at its next meeting and respond within 30 days.
Nothing in this policy affects your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or any other law. Disputes are governed by the laws of India and subject to the jurisdiction of the courts at Mangaluru, Karnataka.
Please contact us before initiating a chargeback with your bank. Most payment issues are resolved directly and more quickly, and a chargeback can take several weeks to settle.
